Shannonbrook News

We have experienced the best season imaginable with solid rain through January to April of 435mm! It came at a cost and throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria horror stories are still surfacing of losses and heartache from unprecedented flooding.

Lynn and I are now man and wife with a fabulous wedding held on the property shared with family and great friends.

Top Gun (USA) A.I. heifers have been classified and will be joined to Shannonbrook Boss (Waco Treasure x Yarrawonga Valid). A limited number of Hoosier Daddy (USA) calves arrived due to the crook season in 2010, and thus far look pretty good.

Yarrawonga Romeo did a great clean up job and put some “handy calves” on the ground, he is a fabulous specimen.

Moves are underway to relocate Shannonbrook to the Jondaryan region on the Darling Downs and should be there by September this year. It is a smallish block (500 acres) but intensive and controllable enough to turn off some fine Santa Gertrudis cattle. The artificial breeding emphasis will be ramped up to handle larger numbers of females. It is void of infrastructure and plans are in place to create a very efficient breeding operation.

We wish other breeders good luck with the coming season and trust will fly the Santa Gertrudis banner high. Recent events relative to live cattle export will no doubt impact on sales generally but is important to march on regardless and continue to set high standards.
